Background - Our client represented himself in the magistrates court and was convicted of failing to provide driver information,  he was then banned for 6 months for totting up due to having too many points.

We were instructed to act. We appealed to the Crown Court against conviction. We suspended his totting ban whilst waiting for the appeal date so he could drive again. We persuaded the Crown Prosecution Service not to oppose the appeal and the appeal was granted. A defendant's costs order was granted to reimburse his reasonable legal fees.

Most impressed. Thought your second line of charges a bit high but when I realised they included the Barrister fee’s I thought they were good. Ria Pleass was very professional and gave us good advise at each stage.  Her choice of James as the Barrister was excellent and I was pleased she went for someone of his experience as on the face of things we had an odds against case on the statements alone. I was pleased she agreed with our general view that there was some inconsistencies in the officers statement and this did prove to be the case on the day. Her presentation to the court when we attended on our own was remarked on by the clerk of the court as being very efficient. Not only did the CPS have a copy of her presentation so did the court and I had a copy in case those two went astray! Very thorough!

A bonus that we are recovering costs as well!

By the way even if we did not have such a just outcome to our case my view of your firms handling would have been the same but without the added bonus of a good result as the initial charge of dangerous driving was a nasty one to contemplate if it stuck.

Are there any ways you feel we could improve our service?

 

Not really perhaps make more of the fact that if you need to use Barristers their initial fee is within your fee (noted - Emma) as I missed that point although you did explain that in your paperwork. Overall your approach is very good and from a business improvement point of view I think the initial phone call going to the boss and giving that free call a lot of time is the right way to do it. After that Ria didn’t put a foot wrong.

When shopping for Lawyers, all bar Patterson stated essentially there was no hope of avoiding points and a ban, the only thing they could offer was an Exception Hardship to minimise the coming Ban. Patterson was the only one (tried 5 firms) to mention a Strategy for avoiding Ban and Points, with all the other firms advising no hope of no points and ban thought you maybe just telling me what I wanted to hear so I would appoint you.

Following receipt of the summons decided I would go with the ‘optimistic lawyers’ Patterson’s (following conclusion of my case Patterson are not optimistic, just the only lawyers who know what they are on about) you were also the most competitive firm Fee’s. You took my information down, let me know what you were doing, let me know what I would expect in court, had a last minute pep talk before Court date. ...

Pleaded guilty, lawyer presented special reasons argument. Went in box for Evidence, raised my hand whilst giving the oath (got a laugh) then answered the questions and then sat down waiting for Magistrates to make decision. Magistrates came out gave their decision. Found Special reasons No points, No Ban, and £525 fine (expected around that) so was well happy. Just desperately wanted my licence untouched so the dam Insurance companies didn’t yank my premiums up couple hundred for the next 5 years and I got it.

Extremely glad made choice to go with Patterson or else would have spent more money on lawyers and ended up with points, ban, fine, increased insurance premiums and I would have had to use them dam overpriced and overcrowded trains, so you easily saved me £0,000s in the long run, and hundreds of hours of my time waiting on trains and buses.

PS. Should I find myself in need of legal advice on a motoring offence again I know who to call or should a friend need advice will definitely recommend.

Our client represented himself in the magistrates court on a fail to name driver charge. He lodged an appeal to the Crown Court against conviction - we persuaded the Crown Prosecution not to oppose the appeal and therefore the appeal was successful. "A more in depth explanation of proceedings could sometimes be given e.g. via phone call rather than e-mail or as well as, so that questions can be answered, although phone calls were made when necessary and e-mails always answered speedily. The service given was of a very high standard, professional and friendly and always willing to spend time to explain and update on proceedings. I would highly recommend"

"Regardless of the outcome, your service is so good, and rooted in integrity, that I would normally seek out opportunities to use you again: however, a Road Traffic matter is something I want avoid! The fact that you succeeded in having the Dangerous Driving charge dropped before trial in the Crown Court – and justly so – was the (very) satisfying ‘icing on the cake’ and clear evidence of Nikki’s blend of a professional, methodical, determined and sensitive approach in dealing with the Police, the CPS and the Courts.

This was a very stressful time for me, my wife and immediate family.  Nikki was always reassuring and yet realistic, keeping me informed as needed. This gave me hope and confidence that I was in the right hands and that whatever the outcome, it would be the best we could have done. It is a huge relief. It’s hard to describe the feeling now that it’s over: after carrying so much pressure and worry, I feel exhausted and delighted at the same time. My experience in dealing with Nikki, Emma and all the staff has actually inspired me to look for ways of continuous improvement in how I run my own financial practice. I seriously wondered at times whether I should re-qualify as a Road Traffic lawyer, such was the obvious career satisfaction that came across in helping people unfortunate enough to be in the position I was facing."

Explanation - This client was previously represented by other solicitors prior to Patterson Law taking over the case. We defended the matter and recovered his fees. We were also able to recover a proportion of the fees that he paid his former solicitors but because so little work had been done that we were not able to recover it all. We then liased with the former solicitors and got them to refund the difference.

This case represents our toughest battle to date. It was a battle at every stage involving Magistrates, District Judges, Court Clerks, Cps lawyers and Crown Court Judges. The argument was all about whether a road was public or private.
