Criminal Defence Lawyer

Are you a criminal defence Lawyer – tired of unsocial hours attending police stations, or time spent waiting around at court?

We need another lawyer to form part of our case progression team, dealing solely with road traffic law. No police station or advocacy work involved. Paralegal, Cilex or solicitor considered. Full training provided to give you the necessary expertise to be part of our amazing team.

The successful candidate will be keen to progress their law career by taking ownership of their own caseload.

The Role includes:

  • Communicating with clients and other professionals.
  • Advising clients in respect of the law and procedure.
  • Drafting correspondence and other documents.
  • Instructing barristers.
  • Preparing cases for court.
  • Supervising and delegating work to junior members of staff and secretaries.
  • Maintaining organised client files.

Essential skills:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Competent IT skills in Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Good organisational skills.

Personal attributes:

  • Passion for criminal defence.
  • Excellent time management with ability to prioritise workload.
  • Able to work under pressure with excellent attention to detail.

Full time position – 35 hrs per week, Mon to Fri.

Salary – dependent on experience

LEGAL SECRETARY

This is a support role for our Case Progression Officers & involves:

  • Accurate & timely typing of documents & word-process audio tapes. Deadlines should be met.
  • Managing, organising & updating relevant data using database applications.
  • Communicate & liaise both verbally & in writing between clients & relevant employees. Respond clearly & effectively to spoken requests & written instructions.
  • Keep attendance notes of all conversations had with clients, which should be placed in the client’s file.
  • Make sure general filing is kept up to date & in order to ensure clients received the best possible service & no key dates, hearings or documents are missed or overlooked.
  • Organise files efficiently so co-workers can locate documents & necessary correspondence – both digitally & hard-copies.
  • Answering telephone calls within 3 rings & complete fact-finding questionnaires to be forwarded to appropriate employees.
  • Operate a variety of office machines inc PC & a variety of office software, photocopier, telephone, fax and shredding machine.
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors & clients.
  • Maintain regular, consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance and adherence to relevant H&S procedures.
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role.
  • Be available to assist other staff during busy periods, inc staff holidays & sickness. Your duties will include typing, filing & taking calls for other members of staff should you be asked to.
  • Show willingness to learn any new system that may be introduced for the benefit of the Company.
  • Remember you are part of a team. A positive, can-do attitude towards work and staff is essential. You need to be flexible & willing to help others in your Team.

CASE WORKER

This is a para-legal support role for our Senior CPO’s. The role involves:

Assisting with the management of Client files by –

  • Liaising with prosecution, by email & verbally, recording notes of any conversations.
  • Communication with courts- to ensure smooth case progression & handling.
  • Speaking with clients to take mitigation & making records of this.
  • Communicating with Chambers.
  • Answering the telephones, completing fact-finds & passing on messages accurately & in a timely manner.
  • Updating clients regularly regarding the work you are doing on their case.
  • Organising, filing & archiving client files, so that co-workers can easily find any documents & correspondence necessary.
  • Operate a variety of office machines inc PC & a variety of office software, photocopier, telephone, fax & shredding machine
  • Establish & maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers & the general public.
  • Maintain regular, consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance & adherence to relevant H&S procedures.
