Do I have to take the ticket at face value

when issued with a notification for speeding at 40mph in a 30mph street by camera device, does the police have to supply evidence of the speed from the machine used and not just a letter of the offence. Should I ask for evidence or take it at face value.

The police only have to supply evidence of the offence if you reject the ticket and ask for a court hearing. Your are obliged to provide the driver identity otherwise you commit a different offence of failing to name the driver and the speeding matter becomes irrelevant.
If you accept the alleged offence you should take the ticket. If you don't then you should reject the ticket and try and cast a doubt on the police evidence - but if you don't you have to be prepared for higher fines and court costs.
