Driving without insurance

My customer didn't have insurance

I ran a car hire business and was accused of allowing a customer to drive without insurance. The person who was stopped by the police did not produce his documents, this is why the officer got me involved.
If I had known that he needed to produce then I would have, but the customer never told me.
What is the worst that could happen?

You are at risk of 6-8 points if you get accused of permitting someone to drive without insurance. You will have a defence if you made it a precondition of use that they had to be insured. You may have a special reasons argument to avoid the points if this does not work. You will also be at risk of a hefty fine Im afraid.
Did you think that this person was insured? Do you not have a trade policy? Tell me more about what actually happened.
Have you got a summons to court? Have you got an points already? If so how many?
