More detail about alleged offence: asked to pull in by on the geat gardai. asked me was i drinking, i said no,he asked me was i insured on the bike, i replied no, asked me do i have a licence? i replied yes.But not on me, problem is my licence was out of date at the time off offence, should i go a renew my licence,or wait until the eventual ban a fines?

You will get 6-8 points - so you might as well renew your licence whilst you are wafting for the summons. If you haven't got any points already you shouldn't get a ban.
If you have got 6 or more penalty points already come back to me.
