I just bought the car
i was speeding and got caught on a mobile camera and have received a NIP. The offence happened on 28/04/10 and the isuue date of the NIP is 20/05/10 which is outside the 14 day issue period. I purchased the car on 14/04/10 but the V5 was dated 18/05/10. Is the issue of the NIP within the Road Traffic Act 1988 time limits?

There is an exception to the 14 day rule if the police have trouble tracking you down. The purchase date of the car is very close to the offence date. I don't think the dvla will have updated their database to show you as the registered keeper and I think the police probably sent the first NIP to the old keeper. This would be one of the exceptions to the rule and therefore the NIP wont be defective.

Do not use online letter packs that claim to "Get yourself off a Speeding Ticket - Guaranteed!"
No two cases are the same. You must not mislead the police. A pro forma letter is not necessarily going to be relevant to the cirmcumstances of your case.
The road traffic police have seen them all a thousand times before.

This case represents our toughest battle to date. It was a battle at every stage involving Magistrates, District Judges, Court Clerks, Cps lawyers and Crown Court Judges. The argument was all about whether a road was public or private.
