I Thought The Fine Was £60 And 3 Points!

Question:

Speeding

Hi I have been done for speeding and have been fined by the courts plus 3 points. My question is can the court fine you what they like? I thought it was £60.00 plus 3 points.

I have been fined £135.00 plus costs £185.00 in total. I think this is too severe, can I appeal? Many thanks in advance.

Louise Says:

If the speed is relatively low then you can get a fixed penalty, which is 3 points and £60. If you get summonsed to court the court can impose a fine of up to £1000 plus court costs.

The court fine depends on the seriousness of the offence and your disposable income.

What was the speed involved? Did you take it to court after being offered a fixed penalty? Tell me more. If you appeal and lose you could end up with even more court costs.
