Supermarket Car Park – No Insurance

Question:

A friend has been summoned for having no insurance. He was practicing driving in a supermarket (Tesco) car park. The officer told him because there are cash machines it is a public place.

Paula Says:

It doesn’t matter that there were cash machines. The only issue is whether or not the public had access to the road in question. If they do then it is covered by the road traffic laws and you have to be insured.

Supermarket car parks are accepted as being covered and he will be convicted and 6-8 points I’m afraid unless he can convince the court that he only drove a very short distance?

Whose car was he driving? They could get prosecuted for permitting him to drive without insurance.
